My Faith Has Been Restored

I have a real thing, a huge Pet Peeve.

I find Political Correctness distasteful and I am saddened by the extent to which we have become so insistent, unkind and demanding as people.

You have seen all of the technnasty right?  People on Facebook or whatever finding pleasure it making rude comments or jabbing at people they don’t even know.  People trying to make other people feel bad as a source of pleasure.

We get outraged every other minute.  We seem not to be able to roll with the punches very well.

Then comes Galarraga.  Pitching a perfect game until the umpire Joyce blows the very last call.  Says the runner is safe when television showed afterward he blew the call and Galarraga actually had thrown a perfect game.

Michigan’s governor gets in it talking about him being robbed and doing proclamations and social networking campaign.  Now if it were me I would want my governor – especially in a state that has such economic problems – to focus on other things – but that’s just me.  Then Facebook page pops up – a hate page for the ump.  Ump’s family is getting threatened.  Really now.

Then Galarraga says.  “Everybody makes mistakes.”  He was gracious and classy.  The Tigers manager asks the fans to give the ump a standing ovation at the next game.  The ump admitted he blew the call.  He called Galarraga and apologized.  But that’s the game.  Human error is a part of it.  If you want to have instant replay based on it fine.  Everyone said this guy is a consistently good Ump.  He blew this call was man enough to apologize.   How wonderful was the Tiger’s and that pitcher’s response?

That’s how to do it, people.  That’s how to get it done.

Next time you are insulted or angry about something think about Galarraga.  Outrage and anger should be a rare event not an everyday emotion.

We pass around a lot of poison on the machine.

Let’s say we start giving out some grace Galarraga Style.
