Too Much for Me!

Hello people.

I found myself saying ‘Back in the Day‘ a lot over the past few days.

Went to college orientation with 18.  It was a two day marathon in 108 degree heat.  They kept us – and I mean THE PARENTS  – going from one building to another telling us about this and that.  They even had a thing where we could stay in a dorm (Your girl passed on that one – been there done that  – no need to revisit)

Anyhow, Back in the Day when I was in college my mom and I got on a plane with a couple of suit cases, flew to Boston, got them up to my room, met a few other parents, then she kissed me goodbye. And left.  There was no parental orientation.  My 17 year old black behind took care of everything from then on (not as well as I should have but that is a whole other blog).

Coddled.  Our kids.  And I can’t say I have done it all correctly.  But really.  This one alumna or something even said there is really nothing wrong with being a helicopter parent – If you haven’t heard the term it is was coined by the media to describe overprotective parents who hover over their children and when a problem arises they swoop in and solve it for them.

Talk about raising a generation of kids who won’t be able to handle their business. (Micca Shadeisha – you two gave a perpetual exemption to the ‘young people’ moniker.’ Though you have the beauty of youth you both have the spirit of those older.  Great combination)

Anyway, I was so out done by the entire experience I decided to make The Rule of the Month No. 14 The Rule of the Rougher Road and I have a new Back in the Day.  Chuck will be putting them up later.

My April – May – June – soon to be July surprise is moving forward.  It is in two steps.  Hope to have step one completed by the end of next week, then I can move on to step two.  Don’t over excite yourself though.  It is nothing like my Chaka Kahn surprise.  Much less interesting but still something new and fun.

Trying to keep things  interesting!   We’ll see.

Peace.
