Sweating the Rain

I have my first tennis lesson in over a week scheduled today and they are predicting rain. It’s just an hour from now so I’m just hoping it holds off just long enough for me to get my hour in!!!

Boomy had a whole new crew of guys come over last night. I swear that boy puts out personal ads for friends. 5 of them came to the door and said “Is Xavier in?” One of them was 6’6″ tall at 14. I know because I asked.

When they came I said “Do I know any of you?” I’m old school. You come in my house you have to introduce yourself and act like you’re somebody. The one in the back that I didn’t see was a regular so he stepped up and said “Oh yea, Mrs. Toler this is . . . . ” and he introduced everybody.

I held out my hand and shook theirs. It was like their home training switch flipped on. Their demeanor changed. They all pulled out what I know their mothers had taught them but they don’t use when they are together. They shook my hand. One said “How are you?”

I sent them upstairs and when they left my husband did the same thing. He walked up to them and by then they understood where they were. They shook his hand and introduced themselves. And then they saw me in the kitchen and all said “Good bye Mrs. Toler.” It was funny too because when they first came in one of them said “she looks like that judge on TV”

They were all great kids. My thing is that we adults need to stick to the old school rules of conduct and spread it around.

Anyway, I have to go now. Lesson is in 50 minutes. It takes me that long to wrap up my knees, stretch, put in my contact lenses, take an Alleve (to reduce knee swelling) etc.

I remember when I could run and jump with no preparation at all!!! But I tell you what – if I have to go out with ice packs strapped to my knees and a body cast on, I will.

Yours in Perseverance!
