Short People

(in order to answer this question you have to be at least 40):
Remember that song “Short People Have No Reason to Live.” I thought the song was hilarious and at 5’1″ I knew he was talking about me!!

These days that song would never make the airwaves with all this politcal correctness stuff. It was a joke!!! I think the guy who wrote was short. I thought of this because of the question someone asked me but I never like to miss an opportunity to take a swipe at political correctness. Anyway. . . .

The reason I thought about that song was because I got a question from a young lady that said she was 5’2″ tall and wanted to be a model but people were telling her she was not tall enough. Burt she said is was her passion and her only goal. She also said that her family told her that she would never make anyting of her self.

Let me take that last part first. That’s ridiculous. Never listen to people who presume to tell you what you are not and what you can’t accomplish. You may not end up being a model but that doesn’t mean you won’t make anything of yourself. EVERYBODY and I mean EVERBODY who talked to me when I was 33 and running for judge said I couldn’t when. After all I had a full time job and a ten month old son in a district where my political party was outnumbered 5:1 and one of the guys that I was running against had practiced law in that community 14 years longer than I had been alive.

But I won anyway. . . lesson being never believe people when they say you can’t.

That having been said let me say this. Sometimes you have to adjust. If I really wanted to make it into the WNBA I wouldn’t make it no matter how hard I tried because physically I am simply not capable. You have to take your attributes into consideration when you make choices.

I don’t know a lot about modeling except they like tall women. That is how it is for runway models like Trya and even full body models in print.

You have to keep reality in mind. If runway is just not in the cards adjust. But there are all kinds of models even feature models: like if you have nice hands you do lotion commercials. Keep trying but don’t be unrealistic and adjust to meet the facts of your circumstances.

After all, I wanted to be a doctor. Was pre med in college. Couldn’t do the math so I adjusted my sights. It wasn’t a matter of effort but a matter of ability. Things turned out okay anyway.

Perservere but do so with your eyes wide open to the facts.

Best I can do.
