This was on my mind ...

HAPPY

I suppose you may have noticed a small slice of grumpy in my last post. People do need to behave better – stop being all jazzed up and angry and insulted all of the time but hey, what else is new? MY Mistake was letting what is bother me. If I am not working actively on a solution to a problem I should be aware – then put it away.

Why, you might ask, did I fail to follow that very important rule? Because it appears I broke another one which is MOVE. I did not get to play tennis then I FAILED to substitute another form of physical activity. E told me to work out and I didn’t.

Well, your girl has recovered. This is me fresh (well not literally) from a 5:30 am tennis game. It was funny. I had 17 take the picture, He said “all sweaty like that?” And I said yes. I might look a little sweaty and gross but I feel GREAT!!!!!!

Back to School

Boys went back to school yesterday. 14 warned me that he had a lot of his friends in his classes this year so there might be “a few detentions”. Conversation ensued.

Had my first tennis lesson in two weeks scheduled for today – rained out. A little bummed but we needed the rain.

Watching the news yesterday. Dealing with some personal business. Sometimes I am amazed at people and their inability to enter into conversations without even a glancing understanding of the other guys position. So much emotion. So little rationality. Doesn’t matter whose side you are on. People are so suffused with fear or arrogance or assumptions about other people’s motives no one can think.

Can’t believe we’ve survived this long.

The Interview

Yesterday I was sweating an interview. Newspaper came out to interview my family. I was a little worried about 14, because he is unimpressed by the media – in fact he finds it quite distasteful my job included – and he has no edit button.

Yet again I was worried about the wrong thing.

14 was funny. Clearly the edit button was not an issue. Boy was practically on MUTE.

Reporter: So what’s it like having a mom that’s on TV?
14: I don’t think about it.
Reporter: What do your friends think?
14: Don’t know.
Reporter: What’s she like at home?
14: (shoulder shrug)
Reporter: Well, is she like she is on TV?
14: I don’t watch the show.
Reporter: This is killing you, isn’t it?
14: Yep.

Stuff

First I want to thank any of you who were in on the charm thing. Just got note from Ruthie. Just so you know my assistant is very protective of me. (I’ve had a couple of fan problems – unrelated to My Crew – by the way) I have left her with guidelines – one of which is ‘don’t let people spend money on me’ Please don’t be offended. She was doing her job. But I am warmed by the gesture!

My bad. AS was pointed out to me I didn’t really explain my new book. Put it in Writing is about taking a sane approach to an emotional issue. I wrote it with a friend of mine ( it was all her idea! I jumped on the band wagon because I thought it was so good) and it’s about all of those grey areas when friends and family run into money and property and people get their feelings hurt.

saneapproach

We have agreements in there so when you lend money or property – or your grown kids return home – or you want to work out a plan with your siblings to take care of aging parents – or your teenagers starting to drive and you want to make the rules clear – we have a nice reasonable way to work it out and bring your attention to the issues and ways to solve them. Then you put it in writing so everybody knows what’s up.

And on a personal note.

Went to the dentist yesterday. Weird thing. I’ve always liked the dentist. Still do. Got 4 shots and 3 fillings. (even though I like the dentist I don’t go often cause I love brushing my teeth – so it was first visit in ten years – which explains the 3 cavities. and they were small – I take pride in my dental hygiene – silly but true.)

Anyway I think the whole dentist thing is mad interesting. I also believe that it reinforces my emotional theory. When I was young I had a cute dentist who had toys and gave ‘sweet air’ – nitrous oxide, I believe. His freckles used to blend together when I was “under”. Positive emotional memory made early in life. Still lives with me and I let it. It works for me.

Busy day. New carpet, new window shades, Magazine interview with pictures for whole family. My men ARE NOT pleased about that. They could only come today and at around the same time. Good thing though. No time to sit around and worry.

Peace.
